From the time I could walk, I spent hours playing in the dirt.

This innate love of the earth has steadily grown throughout the years, and I have continued this passion as I’ve traveled the globe to learn and work in diverse settings: landscaping in high-desert environments, restoring coastal land in Australia, and honing my skills under seasoned professionals right here in Bellingham. All of those experiences built a strong foundation in sustainability, creative design, and the power of working closely with nature.

In Bellingham, I spent over a decade working in local nurseries, learning exactly where to source the healthiest, hardiest, and most eco-friendly plants. Being both a buyer and an on-the-ground designer taught me the importance of blending quality with personal style. I’ve drawn nursery layouts to suit seasonal needs, designed vibrant outdoor and indoor spaces for private homes, and elevated countless events with custom centerpieces—ranging from a wedding to my father’s memorial.

I founded Fiddlehead Designs out of my passion for helping people Refresh, Renew, and Rejuvenate their spaces. I believe every environment can be brought to life with thoughtful plant choices, innovative features like fountains or wind sculptures, and a respect for our natural resources. Whether we’re enhancing a simple container garden or transforming an entire landscape, I’m here to listen to your ideas, collaborate on a plan that suits your needs, and ensure your space remains a beautiful expression of who you are—no matter the season.

Not only is she knowledgeable about all things gardening, but her creative approach and attention to detail really brought our outdoor grounds to life in a way that was better than we could have imagined. Lastly, Sarah is a hospitality ambassador and like an extended team member of our hotel. She welcomes our guests when they are on the property, answers any questions they may have, and provides above-and-beyond customer service. One afternoon, a client was enjoying the outdoor patio of their guest room, and Sarah asked her if she’d like some fresh flowers for her room. The guest was delighted, and Sarah cut some fresh hydrangeas and put them in a vase for her to enjoy during her stay with us.

After that, I refine the concepts, source plants and materials, and oversee installation—either personally or by coordinating with a landscaper. If you’d like, I can also provide ongoing maintenance to keep everything thriving.

Can you help me with special event decor, like weddings or holiday gatherings?

Absolutely! I love creating unique, live centerpieces and seasonal arrangements for weddings, parties, and festive events. Just let me know your theme or ideas, and I’ll design a memorable plant-based display that fits perfectly with your celebration.

How do you choose the right plants for my space?

I take into account factors like sunlight, climate, soil conditions, and your personal preferences. I use my knowledge of local nurseries and sustainable plant selections to ensure everything looks beautiful and is well-suited to your environment.

Do you handle both indoor and outdoor projects?

Absolutely! I specialize in both. Indoor services include houseplants, container gardens, centerpieces, and seasonal décor. Outdoors, I can refresh existing landscapes or help you plan and install new plantings, container setups, and decorative features.

Can you work with existing gardens or landscapes that need a refresh?

Yes! One of my favorite things is rejuvenating established landscapes—adding new life, color, and structure without starting from scratch. I’ll assess what’s working, what needs attention, and create a plan to refresh your space in a way that meets your goals.

Will you coordinate with other contractors if needed?

Yes, if your project involves hardscaping, major construction, or additional services beyond my scope, I’m happy to collaborate with other contractors or landscapers. I’ll ensure the design is implemented smoothly and stays true to our shared vision.

Do you charge for the initial consultation?

Yes, I charge a $75 fee for the on-site consultation, which includes a 60-minute walk-through and a hand-drawn conceptual sketch. This ensures we both have a clear vision and plan before any design or installation work begins.
